STAGNATION
stagnation is a new and promising fresh record label. We are two friends in our thirties and live in Stuttgart, Germany. Both of us have been working in the music business for ages. Michael has been a music journalist for several magazines (INTRO, AUDIO...) and was one of the publishers of the literary magazine METASTABIL. He is a hard working DJ, too, and has rocked almost every club around his home base. A is rooted in the D.I.Y. scene and has been organizing concerts since ever. Now he is runnning his first (own) booking agency, finally realizing after two failed attempts (once with friends in team work and once as a club), that things would work better if he cares for by himself. He also reviews records for the small but fine ezine BROKEN VIOLENCE.
While we were earning our living from nine to five and were blessed with success less than more, the idea of a self-determined future flashed permanently into our somnabulic brains. This dream fosters the one and only aim which is to publish the music we favor, to brighten up the cruel place called world (isn't it cruel?) by precious harmonies. We want to give grown-up men as much delight as back in the days when they were fifteen and listening to a new sophisticated melody. We talk about songs you will take to the grave, before, however, you are definitely going to play them to your best friends for decades, always with tears in your eyes and goose pimples all over your body.
stagnation is neither something revolutionary new, nor about getting heaps of money. stagnation is all about passion. Passion for music. A has thought about the foundation of a record label for a long time, but due to the experience he had from his former booking work, he knew about his deficits in marketing and promotion. And this was the moment were Michael emerged and asked A, if he wanted to start a record label; A replied "Are you gonna do the marketing?", and Michael said simply "Yeah!". That is all about it.
The only criteria for selection is our subjective choice. We reckon, enough people are out there that think and feel like we do.
We can rely on a network of skilful designers, photographers, software engineers, sound engineers and a weird rocket scientist called Dr Katze.
